Guernsey Cricket has marked a significant period of progress over the past 12 months, as the organisation continues to strengthen its structure, expand participation, and build a sustainable future for the game across the island.

Since the appointment of Chief Operating Officer Richard Headington just over a year ago, the focus has been firmly on laying strong foundations both on and off the field, with a clear emphasis on long-term development rather than short-term outcomes.
Over this period, Guernsey Cricket has secured 14 new sponsors, reflecting growing confidence in the direction of the organisation and providing vital investment into all areas of the game.
A key priority has been the development of a clear and sustainable player pathway. This includes the continued growth of the Titan Wealth Future Stars programme, introducing young children to cricket, alongside the launch of the Clicksmith Boundary Breakers initiative for Under 7s and Under 9s. The Mourant Junior Cricket League has also commenced, offering structured hard-ball cricket opportunities for boys and girls aged 9 to 15.
The introduction of an Under 15 representative girls’ side, alongside the established boys’ pathway from Under 11 to Under 19 level, marks a significant step forward for the development of girls’ cricket on the island. Planned tours both in the UK and overseas will further enhance opportunities for player progression.
These initiatives form part of a joined-up pathway designed to support players from their first experience of cricket through to representative and international level.
In addition, the past year has seen the successful launch of the Women’s Super League, supported by Specsavers, creating the island’s first women’s cricket competition.
Alongside programme development, Guernsey Cricket has made significant investment in its people. The coaching structure has been strengthened through the addition of new personnel and specialist support, improving both the depth and quality of coaching across all age groups. This includes the appointment of Cricket Development Manager Ilze van der Westhuizen, alongside the continued development of emerging local coaches.
The Guernsey Association of Cricket Officials has also grown, with an increase in umpires ahead of the new season, further supporting the game at all levels.
At senior level, new sponsorships have been secured to support the Senior Men’s National Team, strengthening the platform for international competition and performance.
Behind the scenes, a major milestone has been the successful migration to a new financial administration platform. This has improved transparency, reporting accuracy, and overall financial control, enabling more informed and strategic decision-making.
Community impact has also remained a priority, highlighted by the Cricket Equipment Recycling Initiative, which saw equipment refurbished and distributed locally and internationally, including to Kenya.
Reflecting on the past year, Chief Operating Officer Richard Headington said:
“The past 12 months have been about putting the right structures in place to support cricket in Guernsey for the long term. That means investing in youth development, strengthening our coaching provision, increasing the number of officials, and building strong relationships with sponsors and partners.
Whilst not all progress is immediately visible, the work being done now is designed to deliver sustainable success across the whole game, from grassroots participation through to international representation.”
Looking ahead, Guernsey Cricket will continue to develop its programmes, support its players, coaches and volunteers, and enhance opportunities for participation and performance across the island.
