A NEW community cricket programme, which aims to inspire future generations and encourage

youngsters to try the sport, is being launched this month.

The Titan Wealth Community Cricket Programme will provide as many islanders as possible with a first positive experience of cricket and convert that into an ongoing engagement with the game. To celebrate the launch of the programme, and to build on the legacy of Guernsey Cricket’s successful hosting of the T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier in 2024, the International Cricket Council will be bringing the T20 World Cup Trophy to Guernsey from Monday 12th to Wednesday 14th May.

‘Community sports is something Titan Wealth is passionate about and so it is exciting to be launching a new cricket programme in the same month as the brand launches in the Channel Islands. Locally, our team has been involved in sponsoring a number of grass roots sporting initiatives for 20 years and that community involvement will continue as Titan Wealth. The group has recently announced a partnership with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and is the main sponsor of the Apex Cricket Festival next month, which will feature a team from Guernsey,’ said CEO of Titan Wealth Robin Newbould.

‘With the Guernsey Men’s team in touching distance of World Cup qualification, it’s the perfect time to inspire the next generation and we hope that the programme, the visit by the impressive T20 World Cup Trophy, and the chance to hear from some of the island’s top players does exactly that'.

Through the programme, Guernsey Cricket will provide every child in years 5 and 6 in state primary schools with cricket as part of the curriculum with younger year groups and private colleges benefitting from a roadshow. As part of further community engagement Guernsey Cricket will support a number of community events and programmes such Guernsey Mobility Let’s Go and Street Sports.

The Future Stars programme for children in years 1 to 6 will be rolled into the wider programme.

‘Titan Wealth’s support has allowed us to combine different elements of community and schools cricket into a cohesive and more effective programme. We want as many people as possible to give cricket a go as the sport has changed so much recently and the new shorter games make it exciting to play and to watch. Guernsey’s success last year has already led to a lot more interest and with the European qualifier for the final two places at the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka coming up, we know others will be inspired to have a go,’ said Ben Ferbrache, Cricket Development Manager, Guernsey Cricket.

The trophy will be on public display at the KGV Playing Fields on Tuesday 13th May from 5pm – 6:30pm but over the three days, thanks to support from Education, Sport and Culture, the Guernsey Sports and Commission and Alderney Sports Foundation, it will also go to every school in Guernsey and Alderney where youngsters will learn more about its history and how the T20 World Cup competition is played. Island cricketers will take part in the assemblies to answer questions from children who will then all have the chance to try the sport.

‘We are delighted to be bringing the trophy to Guernsey as part of a three day community engagement and we hope to see thousands of people. The future of the sport relies on a love of a cricket which starts from a young age and we have no doubt that some of the children we meet will be inspired to pick up a bat and ball and will end up playing for Guernsey in a few years,’ said Esther de Lange, Development Officer, International Cricket Council.
