Guernsey Cricket Kit Recycling Initiative a Community Success

Guernsey Cricket is delighted to share the continued success of its Cricket Equipment Recycling Initiative, a community-driven project aimed at increasing access to the game locally while supporting cricket development globally.

Following a recent call for donations, the Guernsey cricketing community responded superbly, providing a significant volume of equipment including bats, pads, gloves, helmets and more.

In total, the initiative collected:

  • 55 pairs of pads and gloves

  • 33 bats

  • 20 helmets

  • 10 pairs of shoes

All items have now been carefully sorted and assessed, with donated kit being redistributed across Guernsey to support schools and clubs, helping to encourage junior participation and reduce barriers to entry into the game.

Proudly sponsored by G&S Carpentry, the initiative highlights the strength of community spirit across the island, alongside a shared commitment to sustainability and accessibility within sport.

A key part of the project includes working in partnership with the Men’s Shed to refurbish donated bats. Through sanding, re-oiling, grip replacement and finishing, equipment is restored to a high standard, ensuring it can be safely reused for seasons to come.

This latest phase builds on the success of a recent Guernsey Cricket initiative, which saw Under-19 pathway players travel to Kenya with Elizabeth College, delivering donated equipment directly to local communities. The experience highlighted the real impact these contributions can have both locally and internationally.

Once local needs are met, any surplus equipment will be sent to developing ICC Associate nations in Europe and Africa, helping to grow the game and strengthen international connections.

Richard Headington, Chief Operating Officer of Guernsey Cricket, said:

“This initiative has been a tremendous success and is a great example of the strength of our cricketing community. The response has been outstanding, and it is incredibly rewarding to see how much quality equipment can be repurposed to benefit both our local players and the wider cricketing world.”

Guernsey Cricket would like to thank everyone who donated equipment, as well as partners and volunteers including G&S Carpentry and the Men’s Shed, for helping bring the initiative to life.

The organisation remains committed to building on this success and continuing to promote sustainability, accessibility and community engagement within the game.
