The partnership marks a significant milestone for both parties, as we join forces to support and promote the exciting world of cricket on our island we broaden the sport’s diversity in line with the International Cricket Council’s global strategy.

As a locally owned company Aspida is committed to making a difference in the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and charity initiatives and supporting the improvement of Women’s and Girls cricket extends this commitment.

Wayne Bulpitt, Joint  Chair at Aspida said, "We are proud to partner with Guernsey Cricket and extend our support to the women's cricket team and are excited to be able to contribute to the growth and development of their academy. Our sponsorship reflects our dedication to nurturing talent, and empowering young people. Together, we aim to inspire and grow the next generation of cricket stars. Here's to a partnership filled with success and teamwork on and off the field."

The sponsorship will provide funds to Guernsey Cricket to: purchase appropriate new women’s international representative team’s kit; support the strategic direction and plans for the further promotion and development of participation of the game in primary and secondary schools; and plan competitive cricket at school-age and recreational levels for 2025.

Stuart Bisson, Guernsey Cricket Board member with responsibility for marketing and promotion said “we are excited to work with Aspida to support the Women’s and Girls game, which is one of the foundations for improving participation in healthy activity on the island as well as supporting our ambitions to further improve the quality of cricket at both recreational and international levels”.

Philippa Stahelin who is Women’s and Girls Board lead, stated “This is wonderful and exciting news. Our women’s and girls programme is developing strongly, attracting more and more participants. Aspida’s support will be instrumental in driving our ambitions forward and we are delighted to be in partnership with them. We really can do great things together!

Developing the women’s game is one of our most important priorities, reflecting as it does the ICC’s ambition to accelerate the growth of women’s cricket”, said Carl Brooks, CEO of Guernsey Cricket.  “In 2024, the senior international team has some great fixtures, including the Nordic Cup ICC tournament in Oslo in August.  In 2025 we have ambitions to provide junior and recreational leagues alongside a coaching programme across all levels of ability.”

About Guernsey Cricket:

Guernsey Cricket is the body that looks after all ‘things’ cricket in the Bailiwick (Alderney, Guernsey, Herm and Sark) having been formed to oversee the process that saw Guernsey become an Associate member of the International Cricket Council in 2008.

Prior to the creation of Guernsey Cricket, the game was administered on the island by the Guernsey Cricket Association (GCA), which was formed in 1927. The GCA was manned by volunteers and oversaw evening and weekend cricket played by local teams drawn from residents of the island. The earliest record of cricket in Guernsey goes back to at least 1866. One of the earliest fixtures that still continues today is the annual Inter Insular match against Jersey which dates back to 1950.

Currently 34 teams play some 220 games on week nights and weekends from April to September whilst, 12 weekend teams compete over 40-50 overs during the same period both on Guernsey, and inter island with Jersey teams.  The Women’s team has 10 fixtures in 2024 and a coaching programme to encourage participation and improvement in the women and girls game.
