EVENING LEAGUE cricket could be shown across the world, with digital broad- casters making representations after the success of Saturday’s T20 game.

But while legitimate broadcast outlets sniff around Guernsey as an avenue to show cricket, more ominously the seedier side of the international game bookmakers and those after making a financial killing are also showing a keen interest in what is developing in the light of Guernsey’s success in tackling corona virus.

THE eyes of the cricketing world were on the KGV on Saturday.

Surely a purely domestic exhibition game, in which the result was of virtually no significance, has never garnered so much interest.

On the day Guernsey entered phase four of its Exit from Lock- down guidelines, the island host- ed the first cricket game played in the British Isles since the corona- virus pandemic brought a halt to virtually all sport across the globe a couple of months ago.

THE home of Guernsey crick- et hosts its first game of the summer tomorrow – later or earlier than expected, de- pending on how you look at it.

But there is no doubt that the island’s best players will be grateful to return to action as the bailiwick enters phase four of the exit from lock- down and although they are bound to be rusty, just get- ting the chance to blow the cobwebs away at the KGV is seen as a bonus.

CRICKET has got an unexpected shot in the arm and will return as early as this coming Saturday when a ‘Test’ of a different kind takes place.

Public Health will be asked to give the green light to a game which will feature the island’s premier players at KGV, but the Sports Commission’s relationship manager Steve Sharman is very hopeful.
