Match Day 3 – Thursday, 4th August

So after a day out in the sun Netherlands remain unbeaten going into the last round of fixtures after a 90 run victory over Denmark at Port Soif. In the inter insular battle at KGV Jersey ran out comfortable winners by some 124 runs.

At Port Soif Netherlands batted first and at 88/4 looked vulnerable but 29 from Nehaan Gigani and 27 from Boris Gorlee steadied the ship and, with Syed Zaidi getting a quickfire 23 at the end they reached 164 all out in the end. Abdul Mahmood picked up 3 wickets and Moeez Raza and Rasmus Wunderlich nabbed a couple each.

Denmark’s chase never got going and wickets tumbled regularly with only Kasper Kristensen (10) and Moeez Raza (16) threatening. For the Netherlands Klaas Roelfsema, Arnav Jain and Ralph Elanbaas each picked up two wickets. In the end Denmark were all out for 74 in 32nd over leaving the Dutch to secure victory against Guernsey at KGV tomorrow to secure the trophy.

At KGV today Jersey won the toss and batted but lost Tom Heelis early bowled by Max Sharpe. At 63/3 the decision to bat looked 50/50 with Finley Piper bagging two wickets. However Zak Tribe had other ideas and began to set himself before taking on the Guernsey attack. His 132 not out came off 109 balls and he was particularly aggressive in the last 10 overs. He was ably supported by Dylan Kotedia (42) the pair putting on 157 for the 4th wicket.

Guernsey needed to show some mettle and bat long and this they did with Jonty Carnachan leading from the front with 41 and Ed Miller weighing in with 23. The chase was always beyond the greens but they battled hard and batted out the overs to end 150/9. Chris Carnegie finished with 4/28 for the boys in red.
