U15s Day 2

GCB U15 Euro Festival 2016

Supported by the GCB Representative Programme sponsored by Ravenscroft

Match Day 2 – Wednesday, 3rd August

So after some 40+ hours of rain it was a minor miracle that play was possible today with games starting at 1330 and played to 40 overs each. That play was possible was testament to the facilities and pitches available and hard work of the groundstaff at Port Soif and College Field today. In addition proactive decision making by the standing umpires saw two games take place, in the end under blue skies.

The matches were a repeat of the abandoned games from Round 1 so at Port Soif the hosts Guernsey once again went up against Denmark, once again batting first having been inserted. Wickets were soon once again falling with regularity and at 26/6 and skipper Ed Miller gone things looked bad. Nathan Le Tisser (10) along with Luke Bichard (5) got the innings to 45 before Luke fell and the innings limped to 76 all out by the 39th over. For Denmark Abdul Mahmood ended with 8-4-6-4 and Zeshan Aslam 3-0-14-3.

Denmark started with a wobble and at 14-4 Guernsey would have felt they were in with a chance but Kasper Kristensen (13) and Zeshan Aslam (14) moved things along to 61/7 before another flurry of wickets made nerves jingle. The winning runs though came in the 32nd over and, Denmark were home by 2 wickets.

At College Field the Netherlands batted first again but took advantage of the second crack at the Jersey attack racking up 234/8 with Boris Gorlee cracking a fine 59, ably supported by Kevin van der Geest with 57. For Jersey Dylan Kotedia picked up figures of 5-0-34-2.

In reply Jersey were in trouble at 62/5 but Zav Tribe was seeking to get them across the line on his own with a fine knock that ended on 75 from 68 balls with Jersey then 160/8 and the tail were cleaned up for a Netherlands victory by 69 runs. Syed Zaidi was the pick of the bowlers in orange with figures of 3.2-0-19-3.
