Guernsey draw first blood in Inter Island combat!
Playing under the Guernsey Cricket Board name the Guernsey Senior Island Squad ventured over to the 'other' island over the weekend to assist the Jersey side in its preparations for the World Division Five tournament.
Played as 'friendlies' each side was able to make use of their full squads in each game to ensure the maximum benefit was attained.
In the first game on Saturday Guernsey chaed down the Jersey sides 210 for 7 with current GCA Player of the Year GH Smit scoring a typically forceful 78 and being helped by contributions of 58 from skipper Stu Le Prevost and 27 not out from Ben Ferbrache. Earlier a couple of run outs did not help the 'red caps' cause as Gary Rich turned in a miserly performance of 10-0-28-1 with his 'tweakers'.
In the second game on Sunday Guernsey defended a low score of 154 all out by winning with one ball to spare dismissing Jersey for 153. Matt Oliver (27), GH Smit (41) and Gary Rich (22) added most to the Guernsey score and then the 'mystery' spin of Messrs Rich, Jeremy Frith and Tim Ravenscroft undid Jersey. GH weighed in with a couple of wickets as well for good measure.
All in all a good workout for both sides and no doubt all the players will be looking to more serious 'scraps' later in the year.
