Barclays Evening League Player of the Month July - 17/09/2006
July's Barclays Player of the Month announced
PESSIMISTS' James Warr has been named as the Barclays Player of the Month for July.
Currently away on tour in Amsterdam (until Friday 25 August) Warr has had an outstanding run for the Praxis Pessimists A.
During July he hit three unbeaten half-centuries in his four innings – 208 runs at an average of 208 with a strike rate of 107 and a highest score of 70. He also took three wickets over the course of the month.
This individual performance contributed to Praxis Pessimists A winning three of their four league matches in July, including a win against the Barclays Evening Leagues season champions, Total Cobo First.
'Based on this performance James was the obvious candidate for the award,' said Mark Latter, president of the Guernsey Cricket Association.
'That said there were some other players who stood out this month.'
GH Smit (Optimists One) scored 170 runs at an average of 56.7 and a strike rate of 138, including two 50s and a highest score of 74. He also picked up two wickets.
June's Player of the Month Laurence Graham (Specsavers) scored 166 runs at a 55.4 average, including two 50s and a highest score of 83. He also picked up six wickets at 19.2.
M Gillespie (Specsavers) took eight wickets at a cost of just 10.25 a-piece, including best figures of 4 for 32.
Glyn Smith (Jazz Hats) scored 159 runs at 79.2, including knocks of 105 and 54.
As Barclays Player of the Month James Warr will be presented with a trophy and bottle of champagne.
