MAJOR SPONSORSHIP DEAL ANNOUNCED - 01/07/2008

26 June 2008
Guernsey’s senior island cricket team has secured Barclays Wealth as its new sponsor.
In the largest sponsorship agreement ever seen by Guernsey cricket, the Guernsey Cricket Board has agreed a two-year deal with Barclays Wealth for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Barclays Wealth is already a major sponsor of Guernsey cricket and has recently extended its six year sponsorship of Evening League cricket for another three years to cover 2008, 2009 and 2010. Barclays Wealth is also the current sponsor of the annual Lord’s Taverners County Challenge weekend.
‘This new agreement with Barclays Wealth is by far the biggest sponsorship agreement that Guernsey cricket has seen to date, and comes at a time when the senior national side is preparing for regionaI ICC European and hopefully World Cricket League events,’ said GCB Chairman David Piesing.
‘It will enable us to do so much more than we can at present in preparing the players in the best way possible, including working even more closely with Sussex CCC under our fantastic partnership agreement, assisting university-based and locally-based players to attend more regular winter weekend sessions at Hove, financing our ever-increasing usage of indoor and outdoor practice facilities, investing in specialist physiotherapy and fitness conditioning resources and so much more. None of this would be possible at a time when we are continually looking to meet new playing standards and so we are absolutely delighted. Barclays Wealth have already proved to be fantastic supporters of Guernsey cricket and we hope to reward them with excellent profile from success in our forthcoming tournaments.’
The announcement comes the day before the Guernsey side play the MCC which will prepare the team for their tour to Sussex at the end of July.
‘Barclays Wealth is thrilled to continue its commitment to cricket in Guernsey with this new sponsorship of the island side. The Guernsey Cricket Board impressed us immensely with their dedication to the sport and with their plans for the future of cricket in the island and we have no doubt that this will be a very worthwhile investment,’ said Mark Leaman, Country Manager of Barclays Wealth in Guernsey.
‘We wish all the players the best of luck for the coming season and hope that Guernsey will soon be competing on the world stage.’
Friday’s game between Guernsey and the MCC starts at 10am at Port Soif.
