27 AUGUST 2011 - PKF WANDERERS V INFRASOFTECH WALKOVERS SCF IN GUERNSEY at COLLEGE FIELD 10:30 (GACUS/JACO)
Nigel Crocker was the mainstay of the Infrasoftech Walkovers SCF innings making 65 in a total of 156 all out. Crocker shared an opening stand of 83 with brother Ian who made 36. However the innings became becalmed once Ian was out and a rash of false shorts saw some catching practice for PKF Wanderers. At this time Mike Savage (3 for 25) and Steve Birkett (5 for 26) were doing the principal damage on a wicket that required patience and shot selection. James Gale the PKF Wanderers skipper on the day marshalled his bowlers well and also took two sharp catches at cover, one of which, off a Birkett ball given plenty of air was palmed out of the sky before being taken on the rebound. From 113 for 2 in the 25th over Infrasoftech Walkovers SCF would have been looking to at least double their score from there and will have felt they were way short at 156.
So it proved as PKF Wanderers openers Richard Veillard and Toby Belton set about this target with a 48 run opening stand. When Belton was out for 17 Veillard was joined by his skipper James Gale and they were largely untroubled as they saw their team over the line. Veillard scored a fine 50 off 59 balls taking boundaries off the bad balls and being selective with anything straight and, ended up 66 not out, whilst Gale reached both his half-century and the winning score with a six that cannoned back off the tree guarding the newly refurbished Scout Hut at College Field. PKF Wanderers had reached their 160 for 1 in the 29th over and thus this was a convincing victory.
For his 53 not out, two catches and excellent skippering of his side James Gale was named Man of the Match.
