FOR many years a rival to the annual Guernsey-Jersey match was the inter-league fixture.
Unlike the early official inter-island games, the history of which is so wonderfully captured by John Mountford elsewhere on this website, the Guernsey Cricket League v. Jersey Cricket League matches were limited overs matches and teams selected from their deeds purely in local league cricket.
At one stage the two islands clashed in three formats because as well as the inter-league and main ‘Muratti’, many of the best players would also feature in the annual GICC v. JICC matches.
In more modern times, defeating Jersey remains important, but the focus is very much on Guernsey’s performance on the European and world stages.Guernsey now sits in World League Division Six with aspirations to go higher.
